I Went Looking for the Answer
Monday, September 21, 2026
I keep a simple rule: research, verify, and report what the record supports. Comments that this project “exceeds the 2026 stormwater standard” sent me looking for a manual and test results that would prove it. So I filed a FOIA request and read the County’s own records.
The finding: the 2026 manual is not adopted or in effect — it’s a work in progress, and it has no bearing on the Cane Bay / Lake Village project. I’m laying that question to rest.
Sometimes the hunt turns up a rabbit; sometimes it doesn’t. But either way, the people deserve to know somebody went and looked.
UPDATE — September 2026: That has now changed, and I’m recording it here promptly, as I promised. A resident, W.S., flagged that the County has since posted a new Stormwater Design Standards Manual 2026 — dated this month — which has replaced the 2009 version on the County’s Forms & Documents page. I verified it. The full, current status is recorded on the scorecard at red flag #21.
